I was looking at some of *Equestria-Prevails's 'The New Royal Guard' art lately, and it put this image in my head.

Singe reassuring his wife, Leafygreen, and their son, Tinder, before heading towards the battlefront to answer the Princess' summons. I imagine that having a dragon, even a relatively small one, on their side would be an asset Princess Celestia couldn't overlook.

If you'll pardon the necropost, I must needs throw your OCs a couple words of praise: Leafy's ruby-red eyes form a nice contrast with her coat, and I dig your ponies' visibly-sturdier-than-official forequarters; ditto for Singe's coal-grey/violet combo & proportions, which render him markedly less toon-goofy than most of the show's draconic extras (great name, by the by). As for their little nipper...his cute widdle wings/horn/abdominal scales mesh well with the dewy amber peepers, and overall he's far less creepy than the Shrek(R) franchise's "dronkeys". Wouldn't mind seeing more of these three, or Filigree & Fam, or some combination thereof.

Thank you. It's so nice to get some in-depth on why people like my art.
Leafygreen and Singe were sort of reverse engineered from Tinder. I had drawn him first and then went, "Well, what would his parents be like?" Leafygreen was easy enough, but with Singe I found myself tearing at my hair at one point.
I wanted to follow the design of the dragon in the 'Dragonshy' episode, but a lifetime of trying to learn to draw animals correctly makes it hard to switch into such a cartoony style at a moments notice. Same goes for my ponies in general. In the end I found a happy medium.
And I may have to draw the two dragon/pony families together at some point...

Oddly enough, out of the FiM style's many divergences from RL equine anatomy, it's the reverse-tapering noodle-biceps & strangely kinked hindquarters that just seemed off to me. Retaining the show's hyper-expressive faces & filling out those legs a bit really brings it together.

As for dragons...as a longtime saurian aficionado, I generally prefer the METAL/D&D/Asian variety, but one of my favorite pony-related diversions involves trawling for creative takes on Adult!Spike, since clearly the little dude needs a permanent upgrade at some point. The show's two adult examples are more/less OK with me, though it's funny how Greed!Spike's final form was visibly toothier and gnarlier (in a good way) than either of 'em.

Hmm...possible idea for a crossover pic: Spike & Singe regaling the kids & horrifying the misses with some insane war story. "And you know what this mad-drake does next? Straight down the tarrasque's gullet! Long story short, they're not so fireproof on the inside..."

I was thinking more along the lines of an annual cross-species couples' picnic and some comment about how dragons make the best barbeque, but I gotta admit, that idea also has merit.

Well, when in doubt go with whichever's easier to draw. Hmm...snappy apron catchphrases:

"It's All in the Breath!"
"Want it Well Done or Well Done?"
"Trespassers Will Be Appetizers!"
"Everything goes with Ketchup!"

And Merrypaws -- Primus on a pogostick, but your art is fantastic!

(Poking around your gallery after finding the "Feminine Troubles" art link.)

"Everything Goes with Ketchup" just caused me to snort wine out my nose.

Which I would probably be more bothered by, but thank you for both a much needed laugh, and a chance to clear my sinuses.

Consider yourself most welcome, though hopefully you weren't wearing anything too stain-prone. Ditto on your follow-up comment re: our 'host,' BTW.

you know i saw your other pony/dragon art and was intrigued at the idea of a half-breed and down the line and on a rainy day i wrote a fanfic of my own idea of a how half-breeds is pretty much a wanderer as the idea of a dragon/pony being is often feared and ridiculed because they don't understand. There was a war in the story. Um, not really trying to plug my fanfic here but I just want to say because of your earlier pictures of these characters inspired to due my rendition
