MLP - Nightmare Cotton and Greg by merrypaws MLP - Nightmare Cotton and Greg by merrypaws
King Graven of the changelings had found his match in this mare, who called herself Thorny Trap. But though the two of them were bound together by shared goals and desires, and forces even stronger than they could understand, it didn't mean that they trusted one another.

Such was the true tragedy of it; the two who once had been the shining example of unconditional love and acceptance, were now held together by mutual lust, distrust, and greed for power.

A couple of days early, but the picture is done, so I might as well post it. Happy Halloween!

Nightmare Cotton Patch and Changeling King Greg. Cotton's sewing skill translates into her using magical strings to control things in this form, and Greg... Well, he's mostly just a lot bigger and meaner. Where changelings as a rule seem to be rather insect-like, I went more in the direction of deep-sea fish with his design.

I had the idea for this sometime last week, and honestly couldn't wait to get it down on paper. Then the theme 'Fear' popped up for the weekly Artist Training Grounds challenge on :iconponies-for-everypony: which seemed just about perfect for this picture. I originally thought of making a Nightmare version of Greg, too, but somewhere along the way that idea got replaced with the Chageling King, which works just as well for me.

Please tell me this is non canon! I'll be sick if it is!

Ps: It would be neat to see their kids! Just a thought!

'Bout time someone Nightmared up a non-Element earthie, and puppet-hoodoo seems a properly sinister extrapolation of Cotton's talents. Clever incorporation of said thread into her Regalia of Darkness(C), by the by-really complements that wild, vaguely Medusa-squiggly mane.

As for the latest & snazziest King to hit the Equestrian scene, I can but vaguely imagine the mood that overhanging pick-ax horn & set o' saberteeth must keep him in. When he isn't snagging the former on things he didn't mean to impale, he must be dealing with a not-inconsiderable speech impediment. Good thing love's a bit more easily drained/processed than matter-based nourishment. That noted, those fins & feelers well & truly spice up the Hive Leader(C) template-heck, now I'm visualizing the latter serving alternate duty as hypnotic device & mojo-leechers. Here's hoping your Hallow's Eve was sugary enough to match this somewhat bitter treat.

This is a very well done piece, the color, line and value you used really helps to both unify and emphasize the important parts.  Changelings are always an interesting topic, this piece certainly would strike "fear" into anypony's heart.

Those face-tentacles, amazingly Liir-like. Too bad they don't actually make him telekinetic.

Liir? I don't think I've ever heard that name before. Who or what is that?

Liir are a psychic aquatic race from turn-based strategy game series Sword of the Stars. They appear nice, but actually are kind of psychotic, and their elders are literally the biggest douchebags in that universe.
